We love the concept of Cachalote Explorer! Take a rugged, stable and strong Canadian fishing boat, bring it to Galápagos, spend a fortune on a bespoke conversion, and and the end result is a stunning new first-class addition to the fleet, launching for summer 2018.

  • A unique conversion for Galápagos
  • Spacious cabins, best-in-class
  • Excellent stability, built for Canadian seas
  • Choice of 6-, 8-, or 15-day itineraries

Superb, brand-new accommodation Cachalote Explorer has some of the most innovative and beautiful bedrooms we've seen in a boat of this class in Galápagos to date. The design and finish of her internal spaces has to be seen to be believed. It's almost a miracle that this was a working fishing boat. Her cabins are beautifully decorated, with modern design, furniture and fittings. Her private en-suite bathrooms feature beautiful "floating" washbasins, exquisite wood panelling, and superb showers with state-of-the-art fittings. She offers a choice of cabins with double beds, twins, and bunks to give you a wide selection.

Each cabin features traditional portholes and full airconditioning, and you'll enjoy more space than many of the purpose-built ships of this class in the Galápagos cruise fleet!

Communal areas are equally generous, and with a maximum of only 16 guests onboard there's a real feeling of space, particularly in the saloon which is almost the full width of the ship. This is also where you eat with your fellow adventurers, enjoying excellent meals from the ship's head chef who delights in showing you local, regional and international delicacies using the best Galápagos ingredients.

There's a lot of outside space on the Cachalote Explorer, which means it's easy to find a quiet spot to enjoy some quiet downtime, or quietly sip a drink as the stars come out. There is an open upper deck for soaking up the equatorial sun, as well as a shaded main aft deck if you want to keep your cool. There's also a forward viewing deck at the bow - perfect for spotting whales and dolphins as you cruise.

See the best of Galápagos As well as the careful thought that went into the design of her refit no less care has been taken in designing her Galápagos itineraries. Cachalote Explorer offers two different 7-night itineraries and 2 different 5-night itineraries. This means that however long you have to spend in the Galápagos, you can enjoy a superb wildlife experience.

There is even the option to combine the 2 longer itineraries into one remarkable 14-night/15 day Galápagos trip of a lifetime. On a vessel with this much space and with only 16 guests maximum, a two-week trip is as comfortable and relaxing as one.

Because she is only 88ft long, Cachalote Explorer can weigh anchor in smaller, more select coves and inlets than other larger boats in her class. You can choose from her "Tower" and "Fernandina" itineraries - the former concentrates on central, northern and southern islands, while the latter has a focus on the west and central Galápagos islands. If you need help to choose which is right for you, don't hesitate to speak to one of our expert travel advisors!

Our comments We love the uniqueness of Cachalote Explorer. Her former life as a fishing boat means she was the perfect blank canvass to turn into a spacious, modern and beautiful first-class Galápagos cruise ship. We think it's lovely that her designers left the crane in place on the rear deck as a reminder of her heritage. As well as her remarkable space and brand new interiors, we're really impressed with the design of her itineraries, and if you have the time to take it, we can thoroughly recommend her 15-day combined trip. Truly a Galápagos cruise of a lifetime!

Food & Drinks on board the Cachalote Explorer

The food on our Galapágos Cruises is among the very best you will find in South America. Most of the on-board chefs are internationally trained and have prior experience working in the best hotels and restaurants in Ecuador and indeed around the world.

You can expect a first-class selection of food, including a good variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, locally sourced poultry and fish/seafood, rice and pasta dishes. Most boats will always include some typical Ecuadorian dishes on the menu during your cruise. If you have specific dietary requirements then these can usually be accommodated by the chef providing you have given advance notice. Please make sure you tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements you have at the time you book with us. If you leave it until you arrive at the dockside, then it may well be impossible to accommodate your needs.

Most boats serve a range of options at meal times in a relaxed buffet-style. At the first class and luxury end of the market, some boats have more formal dining where you will be served at your seat. However the atmosphere is always relaxed on board our cruises, and never stuffy or formal.

Sustainable Tourism

At Galapatours we love and respect the pristine ecosystems and fascinating wildlife of the Galápagos Islands, and we insist that our cruise partners do too. To protect the archipelago all our cruise vessels must have sophisticated water filtration systems, modern efficient engines, and strict maintenance schedules to minimize pollution.

The Galápagos National Park authority also defines exact cruising routes that dictate which ships can visit highlights at specific times, as well as limiting passenger numbers. These measures ensure that animals and habitats are not disturbed by too many visitors.

Our commitment extends beyond the mandatory environmental standards for cruise vessels in the region: A portion of your trip price now contributes to our Conservation Project. This initiative empowers local communities to protect their territory, engage in reforestation, and prepare for long-term environmental stewardship. This way, your trip contributes to environmental protection and truly shows how travel can be a force for good! And you can also play your part by traveling responsibly and following our Eco Guidelines during your stay. Odyssey

- Traditional first class motor yacht; - Stunning panoramic views from all cabins; - Superb social areas, including Jacuzzi on the sundeck for decadent relaxation; - Packed itinerary, at least two site visits per day, includes kayaking. The Motor Yacht Galápagos Odyssey combines the traditions and service of a classic first class yacht with a modern and stylish design that's a wonderful place to stay while exploring the islands. Completely refurbished in 2014, Odyssey boasts spacious cabins that feature individual air-conditioning, a small desk, sofa, mini-bar, and closet, as well as spacious bathrooms with shower cabins. Picture windows in each cabin give you stunning views of the Galápagos. Odyssey's social areas are inviting and luxurious, with plenty of space to enjoy some downtime or to gather and listen to your experienced naturalist guide brief you on the wide range of excursions you will enjoy. Outside space is plentiful, and you can soak up the Galápagos sun on one of the sundeck's comfortable loungers, or even in the outdoor Jacuzzi while enjoying a cocktail. With indoor and outdoor dining areas, you'll enjoy wonderful meals cooked with fresh local ingredients with your fellow guests. A range of wines, beers and cocktails is available from the well-stocked bar. The highly experienced crew of 9 will attend to your every need and make your stay on board a memorable one. There are a range of naturalist itineraries to choose from, and each offers at least 2 excursions per day. Odyssey also carries 8 tandem kayaks providing additional opportunities to enjoy the Galápagos up close. Our comments We really enjoy the "classic" motor yacht ambience of Odyssey, and her recent refit has turned her into one of the most spacious and comfortable boats in her class. Her extra size means you get "big ship" amenities like kayaks for all passenger, Jacuzzi, and really spacious cabins, and yet the intimacy of a maximum of only 16 guests at a time. Odyssey really is a first class way to see exactly what the Galápagos has to offer.

As befits a vessel that takes you through a protected national park that's home to unique wildlife, Beluga has been awarded with the coveted SmartPlanet certification in recognition of her sustainable operations. Traditional comfort Beluga features delightful accommodation spread over lower or upper decks. The lower deck cabins are suitable for those who want to enjoy a Galápagos cruise but who are prone to motion sickness. Thanks to their lower position the movement of the yacht is less noticeable, but to ensure they remain light and airy they feature traditional portholes to let in the equatorial sun. Upper cabins have panoramic windows offering a unique dual aspect view over the sea and the islands, making you feel more connected to nature on your Galápagos cruise. One cabin has the ability to accommodate three, thanks to an upper bunk. This is perfect for family travel to the Galápagos, but because of this it can book up quickly. Contact one of our experts now to check on the availability of Cabin 1 for your chosen dates for a family Galápagos cruise. Cabins feature twin or double beds, and are decorated in bright neutral colors, as well as traditional wood fittings throughout. All feature private bathrooms, air conditioning, and ample storage space. Luxurious linens and designer eco-friendly toiletries are just some of the special touches you will enjoy on a Beluga cruise. Relax and dine in style Beluga offers all the features that you would expect from a premium first class yacht, and more. For your comfort, all the communal areas are fully air-conditioned, and the salon and dining room enjoy amazing views thanks to panoramic windows. Beautiful wood fixtures and fittings are set off with light neutral decor that gives the space a relaxed and airy feel. The salon features a flat screen TV and DVD player, and is also the place where your expert naturalist guide will brief you every day on your Galápagos cruise. The well-stocked bar features a wonderful communal couch for relaxing with your like-minded fellow guests. The dining area features one large communal table where you can enjoy superb local and international dishes and delightful wines while you swap stories about your Galápagos adventures so far. Outside, Beluga enjoys a large sundeck that's perfect for relaxing, sightseeing or sunbathing. Featuring both open and shaded areas, the sundeck runs the whole length of the ship's superstructure, meaning there's plenty of space to find your own peaceful corner and watch the islands drift by. Wildlife lover's paradise Beluga's operators have designed her Galápagos cruise itineraries in order to be able to offer you the option of four day, six day or eight day cruises. These each visit different sites that are unique, rich and varied. They give you the opportunity to have a truly intimate Galápagos experience thanks to the small number of guests on each trip. If you are looking for the ultimate experience, Beluga's itineraries can be combined into one amazing 15 day Galápagos adventure cruise that will give you a flavor of the whole archipelago. Our thoughts The Beluga is a lovely traditional motor yacht with a really superb crew - we have never heard anything but high praise for their service and superb attitude. There are lots of thoughtful touches about Beluga, including a reusable water bottle in your welcome pack, free snorkel gear, and even some walking poles for guests to use over the lava fields. When you combine all this with the wonderful sundeck and the lovely traditional decor you can see why a Beluga Galápagos cruise always gets rave reviews.

calipso

Calipso

Calipso has just completed a stunning refit. Not only has she been refurbished, her interior has been virtually rebuilt! Her owners wanted her to offer something different, and she is now the only ship that alternates between naturalist and dive cruises throughout the year. The advantage for non-divers? More space to enjoy the wonders of the Galápagos from above the surface! Calipso now has ten extremely comfortable cabins, accommodating up to 16 guests. Of course, taste is subjective, but we think her new décor is some of the chicest and most stylish found on any Galápagos cruise ship today. Each cabin has beautiful modern wooden furniture combined with contemporary decor and fantastic panoramic windows. This is more hotel suite than boat cabin! The en suite bathrooms are beautifully contemporary with rainfall showers and porcelain taps. Plush linen and high quality toiletries complete the luxurious feel. Each cabin is individually air-conditioned, with accent lighting and plenty of power points for charging your devices, including dedicated USB points. You'll also find a TV in each stateroom. Calipso's common areas have been designed with the same stunning attention to detail as her staterooms. Beautiful contemporary wooden flooring is complemented by light colored furniture, and the neutral color scheme makes the boat feel light and airy. There are wonderfully comfortable sofas in the main saloon, as well as a relaxed dining area and a chic bar. Outside, take advantage of the stunning dive deck even when you're not diving! This is the perfect place for some quiet time away from it all as you take in the sights and sounds of the Galápagos on your cruise. For uninterrupted views of the islands and remarkable Galápagos wildlife, head up to the huge sun deck. Here you'll find plenty of comfortable sun loungers, an alfresco bar and barbecue station, and an additional dining area. And what better way to watch the equatorial stars come out than from the comfort of the Jacuzzi hot tub you'll also find here? As stunning as Calipso is (and it is stunning!), it's the Galápagos wildlife that is the star. Calipso offers a range of three, four and eight day naturalist itineraries that have been cleverly designed to give you a real insight into the Galápagos. Their bilingual guides are some of the most experienced in the Galápagos fleet, and their knowledge and passion for the islands will really help to bring you closer to the wildlife, geology and people of the archipelago. Activities that you will enjoy include snorkeling, panga rides, an excellent variety of wet and dry landings, walks and excursions. Another benefit of choosing a Calipso cruise is the complimentary use of snorkeling equipment, wetsuits and even an underwater camera! We can't believe Calipso's transformation. She hasn't been refitted, she's been reinvented! The quality of her interior and facilities now matches the quality of her Galápagos itineraries, which were already excellent. We particularly love her spacious sun deck with alfresco bar – it's the perfect place to watch the sun set at the end of another amazing day on your Galápagos adventure.
